We survived the first night (note to self, being warm at bed time does not equate to being warm in the wee hours- do the sleeping bag zip up!). The eye mask worked well against the light night. 😃
I was excited about going off to explore Reykjavik so I headed off leaving Ashley to follow the women’s soccer World Cup.

I was booked on a walking tour thanks to a tip from a fellow traveller. Our host has immigrated fro the Dominican Republic which gave and interesting take on his experience.
This is where you realise just how small the population is. Also how recent the availability of materials to build. Housing developed from turf huts only when timber could be imported from Denmark. The houses we timber frame with corrugated steel walls and roof.

Iceland as gone from one of the poorest countries to one of the richest. It currently to very rich in energy tapping into the geothermal energy it as in abundance. Energy bills are negligible and the population only uses as small part of the energy produced. Energy hungry industries move to Iceland to take advantage of this.
Houses are heated by a hot water pipe system as are the streets. Notice the smell of sulfur around the vents.
There is no military in Iceland, no armed forces virtually no guns.
We learned a little about the folklore.
